From 1980 to 1990, Rafiqul Islam primarily worked as a graphic designer. However, his passion for photography led him to become a professional photographer in the early 1990s. He pursued formal education in the field, earning a diploma from the Begart Institute of Photography under the mentorship of renowned photographer M. A. Beg. He later completed his graduation in photography from the prestigious New York Institute of Photography in 1991-92.

Rafiqul Islam gained valuable experience in advertising photography during his time in the United States, working for over a year and a half in the industry. Since 1993, he has been a prominent figure in Bangladesh’s photography scene, collaborating with leading advertising agencies and corporate houses.
